Raindrops on roses and blah, blah, blah.

So, we've been over and over what Lucy is in to. Now, here are a few of the things that I've been in to during my first year of being a mom:

Wondertime magazine:

I love this magazine so much. I love it even more when it comes on the same day as Parents magazine, which is its exact opposite in everysingleway. Parent's magazine has panicky stories about how not only is your child probably seriously delayed in pretty much every area, but it is also entirely your fault. In contrast, Wontertime has cozy little articles about building forts, exploring nature, and generally enjoying how cool your kid is.

See Kai Run shoes:

These are, admittedly, a bit of a splurge. But they are the sort of impossibly adorable splurge that I'm powerless to resist (which is how Lucy has come to own some of these). Granted, they aren't even remotely close to fitting her yet, so for all I know, they could make her feet turn green and possibly fall off. But they are so stinking cute, I think I would love them even then.

Elizabeth Mitchell:

I've been playing Lucy these three albums since we brought her home, and she really does seem to like them. And as an added bonus (and in contrast to loads other children's albums), these do not make me want to let weevils chew off my ears. Actually, I really like the folksy, "singing from your rocking chair on the front porch" sort of feel. I've even sometimes found myself listening when Lucy isn't there.

Vintage Kids Books Blog:

This is such a cool site. The author reviews old children's books from her son's (gigantic) collection. It has made my children's book wishlist grow to ridiculous lengths, but it has also made me want to go search for my own picture book finds at thrift shops. Maybe I'll start posting the ones we like. Lucy's really getting in to books now, and it's so fun.

You've got to love the droopy diaper, making her legs vaguely resemble those of a Welsh Corgi:

Those are the exact See Kai Run shoes I planned to buy Allison! I'm still waiting for her to walk before I splurge! I say, if you only buy one or two pairs of shoes per size you can splurge!

I am definitely going to have to check out that magazine and the cds... I discovered See Kai Run at a cool baby boutique here in Portland a few years ago when my #3 was a baby--I justified the splurge then because I was on boy #3 and he didn't have anything else new (everything was and still is hand-me-downs for him, poor guy...Benno too, for that matter)...anyway way cute little shoes, especially since it's hard to find cute shoes for boys...the girls' are cute too of course!

Love the droopy diaper pic... Oh yeah, here's a belated happy birthday to Lucy! I kept meaning to say so before when you were posting all about the festivities but something (1 or more boys) would usually interrupt.

Ooo...I love the old kids books; that site is a great recommendation. I've been wanting to troll garage sales for these kinds of things for ages! This may motivate me to actually get up on Saturdays.

So many reasons why I loved this post...

Too. Dang. Cute. - Those shoes are insanely adorable! I'll have to check out that brand of shoes and see if they have boy ones...or maybe I shouldn't. Too too tempting! I also LOVE Elizabeth Mitchell (I think you're the one who told Kevin about her) - "You're My Flower" and her version of "Ladybug Picnic" are my favorites, though there are so many I love (even simple songs like, "Skip to my Lou"). And I'm getting a subscription to that magazine. You're totally right about Parents magazine - each month, it has me looking for symptoms - one month was I was paranoid about staph/MRSA, one month about childhood diabetes...Stop the insanity!

Anyway, this post was a lot fun - I loved it all (Kev and I had really good laugh about the corgi pic).

oh ya! I'll go check out the book blog, that sounds so fun. I'm ever influenced by you and great taste in things. Thanks for sharing! and thanks for the mag subscription. I have loved every edition.

I keep Jack's green See Kai Run shoes out in his room, so I can see them every day. They are too big for him too, and too cute to be hid in a box.
